MEED’s first ever Middle East District cooling conference
- May 11, 2008, 10:23 am
In Dubai, for example, sustainability has been put at the top of the agenda thanks to a new mandate issued last year by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. It aims to drive eco-friendly development projects across the Emirate and since the beginning of 2008, developers must comply with new ‘green’ building standards.
With this thrust towards greener building practices, district cooling is rapidly becoming the only viable option within the region. Forecasts show district cooling systems consume 40-50 per cent less energy than traditional air conditioning technologies and so are a major resource in cutting power supply needs for the booming regional construction industry.
The conference, to be held between the 26th and 27th May 2008 at the Events Centre, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Festival City, Dubai will see the four key players in the district cooling sector come together for the first time, along with the real estate giants who are looking to district cooling to provide solutions in their major development projects.
Edmund O’Sullivan, Chairman, MEED Events comments:
“Concerns over global warming and action by regional Governments are driving business for certain sectors that can offer a real shift towards sustainable building. District cooling is one of those industries. By offering a valid and compelling solution, this industry is set to explode and will be worth up to US$30 billion in the next ten years in the Middle East alone.
“The Middle East District Cooling 2008 conference brings together all the key people from the industry to discuss how this important technology can help in a way that makes practical and economical sense.”
