RAK Properties, the premier real estate developer in Ras Al Khaimah announced today that it has signed an AED340 million contract with Darwish Engineering Emirates for the infrastructure works of its flagship project, Mina Al Arab.

The AED10 billion Mina Al Arab, launched by RAK Properties in May 2006, is a mixed use development that is set to position Ras Al Khaimah as a sought after tourism destination, with a unique combination of residential, hospitality and leisure components, all blending inextricably with nature.

Darwish has been selected as the engineering contractor for Mina Al Arab in view of the distinct elements involved and innovations expected of this landmark project. A trusted name in engineering with a rich portfolio and a long and successful history of projects in UAE in general and Ras Al Khaimah in particular, Darwish will provide a complete package of infrastructure works for Mina Al Arab.

The scope of works entrusted to Darwish by RAK Properties includes state of the art wastewater treatment and collection works, drainage works, high and low voltage electrical works, street lighting, potable water networks, telecommunications works, roads and bridges.

‘For Mina Al Arab, we very much wanted to deploy a contracting company that can measure up to the quality standards and targets of this project. We are confident that Darwish, with its history of delivering quality and on-time results, is the right choice for Mina Al Arab, ’said Mohammad Sultan Al Qadi, Managing Director of RAK Properties.

As per the contract between RAK Properties and Darwish, the infrastructure works are to start by end of this month and be completed in 18 months.

Commenting on the alliance, Mr. Baha Nahawi, General Manager of Darwish said: ‘It is indeed a great opportunity for us to be able to work with a company like RAK Properties. We understand that we are working on a project that will set the highest standards in property development in Ras Al Khaimah and at the same time influence the growth of tourism and hospitality in the region. With the kind of expertise we have and our knowledge of this region, we are fully equipped to meet this challenge.’

Spread over 30 million square feet, Mina Al Arab will house nine themed and two eco-hotels, that will provide an estimated 3,500 rooms for tourists and visitors to the emirate. The project will also offer a range of residential villas and waterfront apartments, retail facilities, food and beverage outlets, a spacious green oasis walk as well as related amenities that will offer a life closer to nature.
